Why I Am Single

Happy Tuesday #Jontourage,

Welcome back to the “Classy Gent Chronicles”, where staying classy is the only way to be.  Let's jump right into it....

As a 26 year old male, this is the ideal time to make yourself relevant and stand out in the world.  This is the time where you will begin to see some of your friends both in person and online make strides towards their goals.  Some get promoted, some get married, some have children.  The interesting thing about life is that the abundance of one category in your life can harm the others.  Many people feel the pressure to get married because of conversations with their family or watching their friends tie the knot.

We can’t keep making being single a burden to folks or you will have a bunch of rushed marriages which only increases our divorce rate. I have realized being single is not only good, it has several advantages.  In my time being single (now three and a half years), I have learned so much more about myself in the areas of business, religion, and finance.  I have been able to develop some of my own goals and selfishly pursue them without fear of being labeled “uncommitted to the relationship”.  I have had many friends in relationships where their girlfriends didn’t support their dreams.  It caused a great deal of mental anguish of “do I follow my heart?” or “do I make my girlfriend happy?”  That is a terrible situation to be put in.  Many of the things I have accomplished may have been a lot harder to do if I was dating at the time.  Here are my three main reasons I am still single.
My career/schedule- You can look through my website to clearly see I do not have a lot of time.  My website doesn’t even mention I work a full time job.  Like I said, one of the downsides to chasing your dreams full speed is you sometimes miss out on other things.  Whoever I date should be understanding that my schedule will be busy as long as I plan to chase my dreams.  It does not mean I won’t have time for you but it does mean every waking moment won’t be about you either.  In fact, my hope is that you also have your own set of goals and you spend your days accomplishing those.  Support is key!!!Confident/ W

Willing to uphold my expectations- This one is tough for many people.  Sometimes we feel like things we need in a significant other have to be sacrificed or we will be alone.  My expectations are being with someone who is honest, hard-working, and selfless as those are things expected of me.

God must be present in this relationship- This one is a recent thing I realized I wanted/needed.  In previous relationships, God was not a big component so they did not last.  I realize that when you put God first in all of your decision making, it works out a lot better for you in the end.   Obviously this is just one faith based system but this is the one I chose and works best for my life.

At this point, a pretty awesome person has to come along.  I know I give a lot to the world so it would be foolish of me to accept less than what I give.  There are several ladies who able to do and be this and I can wait for them to arrive if what is front of me is not what I expect.

Moral of the story:  Dating is something I am not willing to take shortcuts on just to say I have somebody.  It will never be worth it in the end to skip over your values.  Remember, you could end up spending the rest of your life with this person.

Remember, in order to live out your dreams, you have to think it, feel it, live it!  Until next time, stay classy...
