Happy Tuesday #Jontourage,

Welcome back to the “Classy Gent Chronicles”, where staying classy is the only way to be.  Let's jump right into it....

In my previous blog, we discussed the ways that awards are handed out, promotions are appointed, and top evaluations are earned.  Now, let’s discuss the behaviors that will have you on your way out the door for your “permanent” lunch break from that company.  Meet five males that will most likely be let go from their job:
  1. Lazy Larry- He will most likely be let go because he has not met any of his production goals.  All employees are hired because they are expected to meet departmental and company goals.  Larry is always doing something else except his work.  He loves hanging out in the break room or in another coworker’s office.  Larry is one of if not the lowest producing people in the entire company.  Despite how everyone feels about Larry personally, he is not helping the company meet its performance goals.
  2. Temperamental Terrance- Hot head Terrance is back at it again.  Since he can’t control his anger, he has just snapped on his third customer this week.  As the customer openly states they never plan to shop here again, you realize Terrance is costing the company a lot of money.  Maybe you can give Terrance a position where working with customers is limited.  Too bad his relationships with his coworkers are not much better.  Terrance has received several complaints about his bad attitude and temperament.  In his moments of anger, he has knocked over several office computers and chairs.  Who is replacing all of this stuff Terrance keeps breaking?  It is time for Terrance to go.
  3. Inappropriate Ian- The office keeping Ian can be a huge liability.  He has been reported several times for saying and doing inappropriate things.  Ian has hit on every female in the office and has even made a pass at the manager.  He us also frequently using the company computer to surf pornography websites and other things that have absolutely to do with his work.  His social media page is not much better considering there are several public photos of him drunk and smoking marijuana.  If the company decides to keep Ian, he can become a potential reason that company gets sued for failure to take action against an employee that is making the work environment uncomfortable.
  4. Absent Andrew- Another five days has passed and no one has heard from Andrew.  At first you are worried but then you realize he is actually fine, he just called off.  Don’t get me wrong, a job usually comes with sick, vacation, and personal time to use.  However, a frequent amount of call outs can become a huge issue.  You signed up to work here so why are you never at work?  Andrew becomes no good to the company if he is never at work.
  5. Dishonest Darren- Most people think lying on a resume is fine, it’s just going to make your application stand out more.  Please be aware employers do conduct background checks so do not list anything you do not want to blow up in your face.  This is common when people are listing their bilingual abilities.  Knowing a few words in Spanish does not necessarily make you bilingual.  Do not put yourself in a situation where you are sent on a trip to do business in Spain because you told them you were advanced in the Spanish Language.  Outside of Darren lying on his resume, he also takes things out of the office that he likes.  He steals office supplies and for some reason the cash register keeps coming up short when he is working.  Darren is no good for business if you cannot trust him.

Moral of the story:  Remember, you can obtain your goals in life but maintaining it will be the tough part.  With hard work, honesty, and professionalism, you will be fine.

Remember, in order to live out your dreams, you have to think it, feel it, live it!  Until next time, stay classy...
