Happy Tuesday #Jontourage, Welcome back to the “Classy Gent Chronicles”, where staying classy is the only way to be. We are back with another “Classy Connections” edition, where I will be interviewing some amazing entrepreneurs. Today for our spotlight, meet Kevante Edmondson. He is the founder of MOREco, an entertainment and clothing business. Let’s learn more about Kevante: Jonathan: Tell us a little about yourself. Kevante: I’m 29 years old and I’m from the southeast quadrant of Washington DC. I was married just last year in September. I have a bachelor's degree in mass communication and I’m a field operations manager for a concierge company. Jonathan: Walk us through a typical day for you. Kevante: I’m a pretty routine guy. A typical day for me is going to work bright and early while also networking to find MOREco the best quality vendors and build relationships with other like-minded companies. I go to the gym at least four times a week and then I go home to my wife to end the day. Jonathan: How did your entrepreneurial journey begin? Kevante: MOREco came about because my buddies and I were rapping at the time and had hopes of becoming industry artists. I’ve had the same tight-knit group of friends since high school and our circle has remained just as it was 15 years ago. At the time we were rapping we didn’t have a brand to identify us or a brand that we can push as a unit. I came up with the idea that we needed something to stamp us and represent us a team and that’s where MOREco came about. As the music began to come less of a passion for us I wouldn’t let that deter us from being successful in other areas. I’ve always had a passion for fashion and one of my partners has always been extremely tech-savvy; that’s when we decided that we can take this clothing line seriously with these ideas and designs we have. The rest of my partners in the company have different talents whether it’s promoting, marketing, or even financing and we put those to use on the event planning side. We are now approaching our 6th annual MOREco Madness cookout that continues to grow each year. We will also have big themed parties coming soon! Jonathan: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Kevante: In five years I see my company owning its own storefront in the DC area for our clothing line. I see our website being highly popularized and successful. I also see us throwing major events where we can book major artists or bands to perform at them. Jonathan: Who/What do you look to for inspiration? Kevante: I’m a very cultured and family-oriented guy so not only do my family and peers give me the support and inspiration but I’m also a student of history so I’m influenced by eras before me as well. I follow a certain blueprint of other successful entrepreneurs while making my own legacy. Jonathan: What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those looking to breakthrough in your industry? Kevante: I would tell them to never give up on their passion even if they have to make certain sacrifices or end up in the red column money wise. If you don’t have seed money or financial backing from the start it’s inevitable to not take a few losses on your journey. As time goes you will grow as a brand and make things financially feasible. Just stay focused and motivated. Jonathan: Outside of your work, what are your other hobbies/passions? Kevante: Outside of work I love playing basketball, going on dates with my wife, and watching movies. I’m a huge movie buff and I pride myself on my knowledge of film and television trivia lol. Jonathan: Do you have any upcoming projects? Kevante: We have just launched our revamped 2020 clothing release. We drop two new designs so please be on the lookout for it and shop with us. Jonathan: How can the #Jontourage/followers stay in touch with you? Kevante: Personal Instagram: @moreco_tay https://www.instagram.com/moreco_tay/ Company page: @manof_respect_ent https://www.instagram.com/manof_respect_ent/ Mission statement: Our mission is to inspire and create a lifestyle that is about uplifting one another, one that grooms young men into gentlemen, and prove to them you can never be poor when you’re rich in character. Moral of the story: Sometimes, life takes you in a different direction than you may have guessed it would. However, it doesn’t always mean that new path is going to be worse, most times, it turns out to be better for you in the long run. Thank you, Kevante, for being an inspiration to everyone you come in contact with.
